The Insight to Wellbeing Program is an evidence-based, mental health education and intervention program designed for individual practitioners and organizations to share an understanding of the mind and human experience. The program has been proven to reduce risk factors, uncover resilience, and promote emotional and psychological wellbeing for adults and youth in systems of care, including behavioral health, criminal justice, substance abuse, foster care, and more. This curriculum is taught through a compilation of sessions that focus on the potential, ability, and resilience inside every human.
program overview
The Insight to Wellbeing Program unfolds over 10 sessions, each building on the last. Participants move toward a deeper understanding of themselves and their innate capacity for resilience and wellbeing. The program opens with an introduction to the group and its foundations. From there, it moves into an exploration of the mind's operating system: the constant, natural role that Thought plays in shaping our experience of life. Participants then discover the inside-out nature of their experience, learning how Thought functions as both a gift and a tool that becomes more useful once understood. The middle sessions shift toward practical wisdom: developing gratitude for life's highs and grace during its lows, and cultivating a quality of listening that opens the door to deeper understanding and connection. As the program deepens, participants explore what becomes possible when we recognize that beneath all of our different thought systems, our minds work the same way. That shared understanding allows us to navigate life and each other with greater ease. The program then turns to relationships, examining how individual thought creates separate realities and how that understanding can transform the way we connect with others. Participants explore the truth about habits, addictions, and compulsive behaviors. They uncover the invisible cycle that drives them and discover that every feeling does not require a reaction. The sessions that follow examine how labels shape what we believe is possible for ourselves. When we identify with a label, we narrow our view of who we can be. Natural confidence is never broken. It is only temporarily covered by thoughts of fear, insecurity, or limitation. The program closes with a celebration of limitless potential, grounded in the understanding that when we feel better, we do better, and that the capacity for growth and change within every human mind knows no ceiling.

Our Story
Between 2007 and 2012, The SPARK Initiative's Second Chance Training Program served more than 2,500 incarcerated individuals inside correctional facilities throughout Hillsborough County. Time and again, we heard the same words from participants: "I wish I would have learned this sooner," and "They should teach this in school." Those voices made clear that the greatest need wasn't only inside correctional walls — it was before people ever reached them. This experience revealed an urgent call for a more preventative approach, and it shaped everything we built next.
Today, our Insight to Wellbeing Program has reached more than 1,500 local incarcerated women, US military veterans, and sex trafficking survivors — all at no cost. The program is an evidence-based, 10-week curriculum offered in a group setting for 1.5 to 2 hours per week, led by a cohort of trained mentors. Developed in partnership with The Insight Alliance in Oregon and Wild Inspired Life in the UK (formerly known as Beyond Recovery), the strengths-based curriculum teaches an understanding of the mind and human experience to reduce risk factors, uncover resiliency, and promote emotional and psychological well-being for adults in or touched by the criminal justice system. At its heart, it is a program built on a simple but powerful belief — that potential and resilience live inside every human being.
